In my work Diorama I dealt with the issues of time and surveillance. I examined the forms of representation used in hunting, including the operation of trail cameras applied to map the movements of wild animals. These recordings are seen as visual evidence, and the quality and realism of the images are considered of low relevance. I put all this in contrast with the genre of the diorama, which aims at the accurate representation of the given species. In the setting of my work, the viewer can examine wildlife put in these halls in a completely different substantiality and context. The complete timelessness of the achieved depiction is reinforced by the museum context.
My method was placing trail cameras inside the dioramas of The Golden Age of Hunting in Hungaryexhibition in The Museum and Library of Hungarian Agriculture. In the resulting footage, the timelessness of the animal taxidermy and the arranged surroundings of the stuffed animals clashes with the ephemerality of the wildlife camera images with great intensity.
This project was created in the scope of the workshop called Capazine - Let's Pet! by the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center. Coordinators: Emese Mucsi and Zsolt Miklósvölgyi. In collaboration with: Museum and Library of Hungarian Agriculture
